Let’s face it – cyber threats don’t discriminate. A recent Ponemon report[1] focused on SMEs found that
- “Only 45 percent of respondents say their organizations’ IT security budget is adequate for managing and mitigating cybersecurity risks caused by remote working”
- “Only 39 percent of respondents say their organization has the expertise to manage and mitigate cybersecurity risks caused by remote working”
Any organization can be the next target of a cyber-attack. However, small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) are especially vulnerable since they often lack the resources, both in people and budgets, to adequately protect themselves from cyber risks.
Working from Home
IT and security professionals in mid-sized organizations (if they are lucky enough to have a dedicated security resource) struggle when it comes to protecting customer and employee records, financial data, IP, and all their business-critical information now that the workforce, consultant, and partner ecosystems are remote. There are more devices accessing more information remotely than ever before, and—according to the Ponemon report—attacks such as credential theft and phishing are opportunistically on the rise as less security-conscious employees work from home without the proper secure access controls.
